The generation, storage, processing and use of large amounts of data and information drives most scientific and industrial advancement today. In most developed economies this is underpinned by a synergistic collaboration between computation and networking infrastructure providers on one hand, and advanced users in various scientific, technical, financial, socioeconomic and artistic domains on the other.

While there seems to be growing expertise and use of advanced computation and data processing techniques throughout the Philippines, many of these efforts seem to be uncoordinated and the resources used in their pursuit fragmented. This prevents us from reaping the benefits that flow from having an active community of collaborating users, resource owners, and operators.

HPCN 2019 aims to build such a community by bringing together users, owners and operators of high-performance computing and networking resources to share experiences, identify gaps and mutual needs, and explore opportunities to pool resources and work together. As the first in a planned series of conferences, HPCN 2019 will feature invited talks, panel discussions and demonstrations. For those interested in the more practical aspects of high-performance computing and networking, HPCN 2019 will also offer hands-on training workshops the day after the plenary sessions.

Finally, driving home the point that local computing and networking should go hand-in-hand, HPCN 2019 will be held consecutively at the same venue with the bi-annual meeting of the Philippine Network Operators Group (PhNOG, July 16-17). Aside from providing opportunities to interact with local network operators, the PhNOG event also offers rich technical content, including workshops on advanced networking topics. More information about PhNOG may be found in this link. (Separate registration for the PhNOG event is required in order to attend).
